Term Limits and None of
the above!
Since the 2016 General Election, the animosity
between the electorate continues to show no sign of moderating. In
the special elections for Congressional seats since then, we have
seen both parties nominate candidates with major flaws to fill the
vacated seats.
Term Limits
The number of members of both the House of Representatives and
Senate who have announced their retirements continues to grow in
advance of the 2018 elections.
Thus, in a sense, the founders expectations that office-holders
would not become professional politicians may be seeing a revival.
One of the major reasons behind the call for a
Constitutional Convention has been the electorates dissatisfaction
over the lack of term limits. We have term limits for the President
but not for members of the Senate or House of Representatives.
Hence, I would propose that Senators be limited to two terms and
members of Congress to a total of four terms. Plus, the total amount
of time to be served in both the House of Representatives and
Congress be limited to 12 years.
This simple change would change the political class almost
overnight to more truly reflect the electorate rather than the
establishment and "K" Street.
None of the above!
In several recent elections both political parties nominated
candidates that did not exactly endear themselves to wide portions
of the electorate.
Therefore, I propose the addition of a ballot
position called "None of the above". If none of the above receives
more votes than any of the other candidates a new election must be held
and any of the candidates on the previous ballot would be
disqualified from running for that position again.
Conclusion
The Deep State and the Establishment are not a friend of the
electorate. It is time to change the game.
But then - 'Tis Only My Opinion!
